The characters are nowhere near as interesting and complex as they were in the original books, and I actually ended up liking them less because they seem so different. They are filled with weird and unrealistic twists, and everything is watered down. The first addition does flow pretty seamlessly from the end of the original trilogy, but I definitely don’t think these books needed to be written. I didn’t have many issues with the series until the three new books. As for the many side characters Juliette meets, they are all different and have their own unique abilities, and I loved getting to know them all. I didn’t feel like Kenji’s perspective was very necessary, but I did like getting inside his head. In the newest additions to the series, Warner and Kenji get their own narrations, and I enjoyed getting to see their personalities shine. I really enjoyed watching her become more confident in herself and her abilities, and she has some sass. Juliette, the main character, is realistic, and she has her strengths and weaknesses. The series contains a fantastic cast of characters, and each one is well-developed. I also loved the poetic writing style and the use of imagery throughout the series. Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
